Bryce Young's Time in Carolina is Over

Tyler Stearns |

The Carolina Panthers organization is an absolute mess. After drafting Bryce Young first overall last season, they threw him behind a subpar offensive line and a poor receiving core. But they prioritized getting him weapons this offseason and hired the NFL's "QB Whisperer" Dave Canales to help him develop. But the one mistake they made, one that the Bears made too, is that they didn't prioritize the offensive line. Once again, Young is being pressured nearly every other snap. Yes, some of his passes are coming out too late and are inaccurate, but you are asking a second-year quarterback in a new system to be relatively perfect for the Panthers even to compete in games. But their defense is too poor to overcome even if the offense was at the level of the Texans or the Chiefs.

Even though the Panthers hired a new coaching staff this offseason, Young's time in Carolina is over. The former first-overall pick has had a rough couple of years, and his career seems unsalvageable considering he just got benched for Andy Dalton. He seems frustrated with the organization, and the relationship can't be repaired. So now, we must look at potential trading spots for the former Crimson Tide star.

The first one that comes to mind is Miami. If Tua gets one more head injury, the league will likely force him to retire because he has been banged up so many times in the last couple of seasons. Bryce Young has a similar profile to Tua with more athletic upside and similar armstrength. Placing Young in McDaniels system would be a mutualistic relationship, because the Dolphins would have a QB who could escape the system and make plays with his legs, and Bryce Young would get a second chance with a new, successful team. Another landing spot for Bryce would be the Browns. The Deshaun Watson project has been bad, to say the least. He has been a shell of his pre-legal issues self on the field, unable to throw the ball downfield and extend plays with his legs. He has been massively inefficient and has been carried by his defense which gives him multiple more opportunities per game. Bryce Young is a young, flashy QB who could fix the Browns' issues at the quarterback position. Cleveland has strengths at running back, wide receiver, tight end, and offensive line, but the only thing lacking for them is QB. If they brought in Bryce, they could develop him into a system and a team that is built for success.

Bryce Young is not a lost cause, but the Panthers organization may be one. Only a few years ago, Carolina had Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold on the roster, two QBs who are thriving with their new teams. They also ruined the career of Cam Newton, their MVP-winning signal-caller. If Bryce made his way to a new team, he would thrive and lead that franchise to success, as proven by the previous QBs in Carolina.
