Champions League Final: A Preview

Tyler Stearns |

The Champions League Final is being played at Wembley this weekend. Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid will be squaring up for the last final of the current UCL format. Real Madrid is coming in as the greatest team in the tournament, attempting to get their 14th trophy. Dortmund haven't been as dominant, but they have won the prestigious European trophy one time in 1997.

Everyone on the planet is expecting Madrid to win. They have arguably the two best attackers in the world Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr. who have dominated the tournament thus far. The two are the front runners for the Ballon d'Or due to their individual dominance and team awards.

Dortmund don't have stars like Madrid. They also don't have a manager like Madrid. But they have a team that has worked well in the Champions League thus far. Jadon Sancho has come alive for the German club. Older stars like Mats Hummels have been exceptional this season. Hummels single-handedly denied PSG nearly every goal-scoring opportunity they had. They have young players who are showing promise, like Ian Maatsen and Nico Schlotterbeck. They also have experience and leadership in club-legend Marco Reus.

Dortmund have been amazing this campaign. Nobody thought they would even make it past their group, let alone top it and make the final. Madrid was expected to go this far. They are the Champions League kings and there was no expectation that it would not remain that way. Unfortunately for Dortmund, Madrid is inevitable. Madrid will win the game 2-1. Bellingham and Rodrygo will score for Madrid and Ian Maatsen will score for Dortmund. BVB has been sensational this year in the Champions League, but it will come to an end on June 1st.
