Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes stepped onto the national stage before the season with their swagger and style. Deion's son and starting quarterback for the team, Shedeur Sanders, was one of several players to lead the charge for Colorado.
If someone were to look at the Buffaloes record from the 2022-23 season to the 2023-24 season, many would call it an improvement considering they went from 1-11 to 4-8. Though they did get better record-wise, they hurt themselves by focusing too much on the PR and media of it all and got carried away. Dan Lanning (Oregon HC) said it best, "They're playing for clicks, we're playing for playing for the wins."
The one thing that can be said about Deion's work as a head coach is how he turned around the roster from when he took the coaching job to now. The team wasn't as strong last year, but they were much improved in many areas of the field, specifically the skill positions. Now, going into his second year in Boulder, he has a plethora of offensive and defensive line talent to work with. But none of this should warrant any of the hype he has received. The team does not need to have crazy expectations it can only hurt them. The more pressure they have, the higher the likelihood that their play will be criticized by fans and media alike.
They are one of the top-ranked teams in the upcoming EA College Football 25 game for no reason. They won four games last season and showed significant regression throughout the year. Deion needs to cut all of the hype and excitement about the team out and focus on building a roster capable of competing in the BIG 12.
